Encompass Care Bulletin - June 2022

1st Jun 2022

Dear colleagues, I hope you all enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations and the extended bank holiday weekend. Throughout the Bulletin, there are snapshots of our staff and service users, enjoying a party or two and having fun! Pop onto our social media pages for more!

As a Charity, May and June have been very productive months. We have completed our Annual Business Plan for 2021-22, set out our 22-23 Annual Business Plan, agreed our Corporate Objectives, Key Performance Indicators, identified our risks…and are at the final hurdle of publishing our next 3 Year Strategy 2022-25! Appraisals are being rolled out too.

There have been a number of changes at Head Office, not least becoming accustomed to hybrid working, but also the retirement of staff, the gradual migration to the cloud using Microsoft 365, changing from Altura to Citation as a training, Health & Safety and HR modular system. Consolidation of our Nourish system, having recently expanded into data analytics is proving to be very successful for information, monitoring and compliance.

We have been successful in our bid to join the new Dorset Council Framework and await further news regarding rates. Our other commissioners have published their rates which are favourable. The Executive Management Team continue to network with our National Associations which is keeping Encompass Care front and centre of the issues affecting our Social Care Sector.

My back is famous! Here is a photo sent out on Twitter by the Voluntary Organisations Disability Group (VODG) showing attendees and speakers at their Conference on 15 June 2022 in Birmingham.

Best Wishes, Viv CEO

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations!

Our Dorchester services hosted the Queen’s Jubilee in style. It was certainly a party fit for Her Majesty.

Elsadene

Although we unfortunately had a couple of staff members and one resident test positive over the past 2 weeks, we still managed to have a very enjoyable Jubilee garden party. Bridget our cook, did an amazing job preparing a great spread for this very special party. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves with delightful afternoon tea, scones and some non-alcoholic bubbly in the garden whilst listening to some relaxing music. Our gardens are looking beautiful thanks to our resident David who ensures that the plants are always well watered and deadheaded when needed.

Providers Urged to Check Data Protection

Adult social care providers in England are being urged to check their data protection policies by 30 June 2022. Your organisation needs to complete and publish its Data Security Protection Toolkit (DSPT) self-assessment by 30 June 2022. Encompass Care has submitted theirs on 23rd June.

The DSPT online self-assessment tool allows organisations that process health and care data to measure their performance against the National Data Guardian’s 10 Data Security Standards.

Health and care organisations that have access to NHS Patient Data and Systems should complete and publish a DSPT self-assessment every year against the standard to provide assurance that they are practising good data security and they are handling personal information correctly, including maintaining the security of patient information.

Safeguarding

There has been a reduction from 33 to 22 incidents reportable to Dorset Adult Safeguarding for May. Out of those incidents there were 9 medication related safeguarding alerts; none of the incidents were CQC notifiable.

Spotlight on Operations

Luke Stockley, Divisional Director, Performance & Systems Delivery

I started work with Encompass Care in 2019 as Deputy Operations Manager, then Divisional Operations Manager for North Dorset and Weymouth, and now Divisional Director, heading up the Operations Department, accountable for the smooth running of the Divisions, and placing the service user firmly at the centre of our support services. I have a broad background in Social Care and started work in 2009 as a support worker for Mencap, a nationwide charity supporting people with a learning disability. As the Nourish Lead for Encompass Care I am responsible for processing & analysing the massive amounts of data from the system into accessible, visual dashboards which enable us to understand trends, cause and effect, meaning we can be more proactive in our approach to decision making. The other part of my role is performance and systems delivery, ensuring all our systems work efficiently and talk to each other.

Marianna Anderson, Associate Divisional Director

I started working for Encompass in 2002 on the bank system and took on a more permanent position in 2004 as a qualified LD nurse. I worked nights for 6 years, before working full-time on days in one of our residential homes, before it became a supported living service. I then took on the role of the Deputy Manager in the Outreach service, progressing to Service Manager. In August 2021 I became more involved in Operations and have now become the Associate Divisional Director, supporting the Service Managers and working with Luke and Tracey, as well as IPC and LD Lead. It is a role that keeps me busy. In my spare time I enjoy the sun and being out in the fresh air walking with my dogs and dressing up when the opportunity arises!

Michelle Vincent, Registered Manager, Encombe (Respite Service), & Co-Referrals Lead

I have been working for Encompass for 30 years in total. I took a year away to further my experience in a local children’s respite service. I came to Encompass as a student RNMH between 1988 and 1991 and was fortunate enough to be employed in a residential service when I qualified. I have 2 daughters and a grandson which keep me busy.

My Husband and I have just had our 10th wedding anniversary this Jubilee weekend. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking and especially baking for my friends and family.

Martina Goble, Registered Manager Elsadene & MH Outreach

I recently joined Encompass in February 2022 and am very excited about the opportunity to develop our mental health services and expanding on our existing service provision. Having originally trained as a nurse (many years ago) in Germany, I have been working in the Social Care Sector in England for 20 years now, leading and developing various services including setting up a Learning Disability Agency, managing nursing and residential settings and a live Agency -in care service across the UK. I have 2 grown up sons, a precious granddaughter who is four years old who I love spending time with and have recently been told that I have another grandchild on the way. In my spare time I love hiking, spending time with family and friends and reading. I have travelled extensively (pre -covid) and love to learn about different cultures and see the world and I hope to do some more travelling.

Shelley Tuddenham, Registered Manager, Rawleigh House, & Co-Referrals Lead

I am very excited for what the future brings for Rawleigh now we are emerging from the shadows of the past 2 years. I am a mum of 3 so I am always busy, I like to find time for myself by doing yoga when I can.

Sarah Cooke, Registered Manager for SLS Dorchester & Bridport Division

I started working within Encompass in 2000 as a support worker at 3 Prince of Wales Road. I have had various different roles within Dorchester services, spending time as a Senior Support Worker and Deputy Manager, before becoming the Registered Manager of 3 Prince of Wales Road & 5 Dick O’th Banks 2018, I then started my current role in 2020. I am Mum to four children and have a puppy called Sid. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family & friends, & outdoors activities.

Donna Rayner, Registered Manager for SLS North Dorset & Weymouth Division

I have worked for the organisation for 21 years, starting as a qualified Learning disability Nurse and progressing to Service Manager for North Dorset and Weymouth. I have always loved working for the organisation and particularly with the amazing people we support. I am also the CQC Lead for the organisation and I am passionate about inspiring all our teams to deliver outstanding support. I have 2 teenage girls and my husband is in the Royal Navy so life can be busy. I moved down from South Yorkshire so my Northern tones mean I can be very easily recognised.
