40th Anniversary

The National Care Association (NCA) invited me as CEO for Encompass for Afternoon Tea in the House of Lords, Cholmondeley Suite, to celebrate their 40th Anniversary. There were representatives from other provider members, the CQC, the NCA Board and Vice Chair. Unfortunately, the Chair, Nadra Ahmed, OBE was unable to attend due to Covid.

I was pleased to represent Encompass, be able to connect with other providers from all over the UK and discuss the great work that we do at Encompass for those people we support to lead their lives as a member of their community. I also met and heard about the work the NCA Board and strategists do to influence policy and create opportunities for providers to have a voice by participating in Government working groups, challenging, and championing the social care sector on our behalf. We are very proud to be a National Care Association member.

 

Parliamentary Update from Care England

The Care and Mental Health Minister used her time in an Adjournment Debate to highlight this month’s decision by the Government to add “care workers, care assistants and home carers to the health and care visa and the shortage occupations list for a 12-month period”. She said she hopes this will make it “quicker, cheaper and easier for social care employers to recruit eligible workers from overseas”.

Norma Lee, Chair of the Governance & Quality Committee passed on the Board’s sincere thanks for everything you do for our service users, their families and circle of support. They are very proud to be a Trustee of Encompass because of you. Their visits were very beneficial and most enjoyable and they intend to do as much as they can to make up for the lack of face to face contact during covid.

STOP PRESS!

Work has progressed well on the rostering system, and the updated version is being distributed which allows the weekly recording of agency, sickness, and annual leave hours. Testing will continue through February and March in time for a full launch in April.

Our Registered Managers can now access medication-related incident and incidents dashboards for their business units via the Office365 portal. Presented at the weekly Performance Review with the team leaders and the service managers weekly meeting, incident trends and statistics are highlighted.

 

Encompass Recognition Awards 2022

The nominations closed on 22nd February 2022.

Commissioning

Discussions with our DC commissioners are continuing via the DCF2 project though progress has slowed.
We await news of the release of the new open framework, proposed to be mid-February, but is delayed.
No further referrals are imminent due to staffing capacity because of the national workforce crisis.

 

Innovation in Care Conference

Luke Stockley and Lisa Rowland Hall will be attending the…Innovation in Care Conference being held in Birmingham on 2nd March, where industry leaders will provide insight into the possibilities of care provision, the wide range of solutions that innovation brings and the exciting developments now available for service users.

Gillian Keegan MP, Minister of State for social care and Mental health is speaking at the event. Luke and Lisa will be hearing from other national figures about The Great Debate, why the social care sector is powerless to address the workforce crisis without wholesale changes to the structure and funding of the sector.
